 Hi Divers

What a hectic week for everyone! The shop managed to escape any damage from the earthquake as well as the floods and everyone is safe J We hope everyone and friends and family are also safe after these tough couple of days.

We have a quick southerly change just in time for the weekend again, we have gale southerlies and a 3m southerly swell coming in today. The clean up in the harbour is cancelled.

Congratulations to all our new Rescue divers: Sebastien Brachet, Ry Oliver, and Alex Halliwell!

Thank you to all the divers who ventured out in the rain to join us for our NZ Police Dive Team talk last Saturday. It was a great reminder for all those attending that there are simple things we can do to help ensure our safety whilst out diving this summer. Some points to always think about:

·         Get your equipment checked or serviced on an annual basis.

·         Keep you dive skills up to date. If you haven’t been for a dive in a while, join us for a quick refresh in the pool or sea.

·         Be honest about your medical condition. If you have any issue, please check with a doctor before heading out for a dive this summer.

·         Check your equipment and your buddy’s before the dive. Pre-dive checks can help identify problems prior to heading underwater.

·         Follow good diving practices: Stay with your buddy, stick to your maximum depth and dive time, tell someone where you are diving and your dive plan, monitor your air regularly and always try and end your dive with at least 50 bar on the surface.

·         Carry basic safety equipment like a Safety Sausage, whistle, air horn/sounder and dive knife.

No dive club dive on Saturday.

Saturday 19th harbour clean-up is POSTPONED due to the recent earthquake activity. We will let you know the new event date soon.

Sunday club dive meeting at the shop at 1pm.

It is not too late to join our summer school! You could spend your time studying in a classroom or you could be having fun diving and leaning some valuable skills. We are running a course that takes you from learning to dive right through to rescue diver. It is eligible for student loans and allowances. A 12 week course, 4 days per week with 2 weeks off over Christmas. The schedule fits right into the uni break. You will do 40 dives including wreck, boat and deep, a first aid course and more. Perfect for marine biology students or those wanting a career based around the ocean. Contact us for details, spaces are limited.

If you think we provide a great service, jump on line and give us a review either on trip advisor or yellow.co.nz and you will go in the draw to win a $100 Dive Wellington voucher. There is a $100 voucher for each site. The competition runs to the end of November with the winner announced December 1st.

We have the Beuchat Marlin Prestige spearo suit on sale at just $460 while stocks last, this suit retails above $600 elsewhere. Be quick though as stock is limited.

There is a certain level of fitness required for diving, if you are fit your air lasts longer and you don't mind those surface swims. Club Active is offering Dive Wellington customers a corporate rate of just $70 per month for full gym access, 3 sessions with a personal traner to design a workout to suit you, full access to council swimming pools, steam and sauna room as well as fitness classes, great value for just over $16 per week. Contact Phil or Gavin at Kilbernie Club Active and mention you are a Dive Wellington customer.

We have just one spot left on our TRUK LAGOON trip. You could be joining us for some fantastic wreck and reef diving with a 2 day stopover in Japan. Escape our winter in 2017 for a 7 night luxury liveaboard adventure doing up to 5 dives per day in one of the bucket list dive destinations. Secure your spot with a deposit and pay the remainder by April next year.

5pm this Sunday November 20th we have Malcolom Francis of Niwa giving a presentation on Great White sharks and the tagging programme he conducted at Stewart Island. An interesting presentation with lots of facts about these amazing and beautiful creatures. Let us know you are coming so we can allow for numbers.

Thanks for being a Dive Wellington customer, we appreciate your business...If you’re looking to buy any dive equipment, we have access to most brands and can usually match on-line pricing.

Have a great weekend from the team at Dive Wellington Dave, Paula, Chris, Kelly and Alex.
