Hi Divers

The neverending theme seems to be southerly swell on the South Coast. This week we had some massive waves on the coast with a 19.4 meter wave recorded in the Southern Ocean. The water temp is around 12 degrees at the moment, but that didin't stop our Diploma students Tess and Rhy celebrating their 100th dive, with a naked dive in Kau Bay. Best of luck to Chris, Tess, Rhy, Quazar and Richard who sit their instructor exams this weekend, you guys will nail this.

Congratulations to Bronte and our 4 school students who completed their open water course this weekend.

Weekend weather is for light winds up until lunchtime Saturday then a big southerly rolls in.

Saturday morning meeting at the shop at 8.30am, spaces are limited.

Our group heads away this week for what many divers would describe as the wreck divers trip of a lifetime. A 2 day stopover in Tokyo followed by a night in Guam and then onto Truk Lagoon. Truk Lagoon is 1800 kilometres North East of Papua New Guinea with water temperatures of around 28 degrees. We have 7 days on board Truk Odyssey, doing up to 5 dives per day on some of the many ships and planes that are scattered throughout the area. On February 17th 1944, five fleet carriers and four light carriers, along with support ships and some 500 aircraft, descended on the islands in a surprise attack. Just a week before the attack, the Japanese military had moved additional ships to the area and as a result approximately 250 Japanese aircraft were destroyed and more than 50 ships sunk. An estimated 400 Japanese soldiers were kiled in one ship alone, trapped in the cargo hold. Most of the fleet remains in exactly in the same spot it was left, largely forgotten by the world until the late 1960's, now days it is a wreck divers paradise.

For our next overseas trip, we are escaping winter and heading to Fiji for a weeks diving in Beqa Lagoon. Staying at the Uprising Beach Resort http://uprisingbeachresort.com/ and diving with Beqa Adventure Divers.http://fijisharkdive.com/ The trip includes airfares from Wellington, transfers, accommodation, daily breakfast, 10 dives including 4 shark dives and 6 reef dives. We have 10 spaces available at $2950 with a $1000 deposit securing your place. Let us know if you would like more details.
