Dive News: Wed 02 Nov 2016

Hi Divers

We have northerly winds predicted for the remainder of the week,so the visibility should be great for diving this weekend. We have a large open water course happening, so note the later time for dive club dives.

Congratulations to Kathryn Nevatt who won the womens indoor freediving nationals, breaking her own record with a static breathold time of 7 minutes 45 seconds. This event is proudly sponsored by Dive Wellington and Beuchat. Local diver Guy Brew took out the mens competition.

If you are after a pool training wetsuit we have the Beuchat Zento suit on sale at just $289, retails at $349.

Congratulations to Annie Lock on completing her advanced open water course.

With summer fast approaching, many divers will be dusting off their dive gear and getting out for a dive. Why not join us and refresh yourself or learn some new rescue skills, as well as gain an insight into diving safety with the NZ Police Dive Squad.

10am to 1pm Diver rescue session suitable for all certified divers, everyone welcome. Whether you are a qualified rescue diver or just want to learn some new skills, join us for a fun filled morning on Island Bay Beach. We will be reviewing self rescue skills as well as having a play in the water dealing with tired divers and panicked divers. For those that are qualified recscue divers we will review other skills from the rescue course. Coast Guard will also be there practicing pulling divers from the water. PRICE standard dive club pricing. Limited spaces are available so you need to book.

The Police Dive Squad presentation begins 1pm at the Island Bay Surf Club 250 The Esplanade Island Bay. Learn to be safe both in and on the water this summer. This is a free event for everyone, divers, freedivers, snorkellers, swimmers and boaties.

What are you doing over the summer break? You could spend your time studying in a class or you could be having fun diving and leaning some valuable skills. We are running a course that takes you from learning to dive right through to rescue diver. It is eligble for student loans and allowances. A 12 week course, 4 days per week with 2 weeks off over Christmas. The schedule fits right into the uni break. You will do 40 dives including wreck, boat and deep, a first aid course and more. Perfect for marine biology students or those wanting a career based around the ocean. Contact us for details, spaces are limited.

Do you know someone who might be interested in taking this course? Have them mention your name and if they take the course, you will earn yourself a $200 referral fee.

We have the Beuchat Marlin Prestige spearo suit on sale at just $460 while stocks last, this suit retails above $600 elsewhere. Be quick though as stock is limited.

There is a certain level of fitness required for diving, if you are fit your air lasts longer and you don't mind those surface swims. Club Active is offering Dive Wellington customers  a corporate rate of just $70 per month for full gym access, 3 sessions with a personal traner to design a workout to suit you, full access to council swimming pools, steam and sauna room as well as fitness classes, great value for just over $16 per week. We have just one spot left on our TRUK LAGOON trip. You could be joining us for some fantastic wreck and reef diving with a 2 day stopover in Japan. Escape our winter in 2017 for a 7 night luxury liveaboard adventure doing up to 5 dives per day in one of the bucket list dive destinations. Secure your spot with a deposit and pay the remainder by April next year.

5pm Sunday November 20th we have Malcolom Francis of Niwa giving a presentation on Great White sharks and the tagging programme he conducted at Stewart Island. An interesting presentation with lots of facts about these amazing and beautiful creatures. Let us know you are coming so we can allow for numbers.
